Our Mission

Importance of Play
Play is an essential part of a child's development as it provides them with opportunities to explore and learn about the world around them. Through play, children learn important skills such as problem-solving, communication, and socialization. Play also helps children to develop their creativity and imagination, which are important for their cognitive and emotional growth. It allows them to express themselves in a safe and enjoyable way, which can boost their self-esteem and confidence. Moreover, play helps children to develop their physical skills, such as coordination, balance, and strength, which are important for their overall health and well-being.
Learning through play can also help children to develop a love of learning that can last a lifetime. When children engage in play, they are motivated by their own curiosity and interests, which makes learning more enjoyable and meaningful. They are also more likely to retain information and skills learned through play because they have learned them in a context that is relevant and meaningful to them. By incorporating play into a child's learning, parents and educators can make the learning process more engaging, exciting, and effective. This can help to foster a positive attitude towards learning, which can benefit a child throughout their academic and personal life.

"Play is the foundation of learning, creativity, self-expression, and constructive problem-solving. It's how children wrestle with life to make it meaningful."

Where are we located?
We are located in Stony Point Fashion Park near the grassy play area just inside the mall.
We are right next to where the old Panera used to be. If you see the dog park as you're driving around the parking lot, our building is directly behind it!
You will need to park nearby and enter the mall to reach our front entrance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
-
Are walk-ins allowed for open-play?Yes. However, we strongly recommend making a reservation online to secure a spot. We only accept walk-ins when there is extra space available during a given open-play session, so if we have already reached our maximum capacity (15 children), then we will have to turn away any walk-ins.
-
Can I have my child's birthday party here?Yes! We offer private birthday parties on the weekends and after closing on Fridays. For more information, please click the button below to visit our page for birthday parties!
-
Why do I need to wear socks in the playroom? We ask that adults wear socks in the playroom for hygienic reasons. Wearing socks (or shoe covers, which are available upon request) in the playroom helps prevent the spread of dirt and germs, ultimately helping to keep our community safe and healthy. Grippy socks (required for children) do this as well, but also have the added benefit of providing better traction for little ones so that they don't slip and fall while playing.
-
You say ages 0-5, does that mean older kids can't play too?Of course not! You are more than welcome to book for an older child, we just ask that you consider how your little one plays. In our experience, sometimes older ones (ages 6 and 7) are bigger, stronger, higher energy, and tend to only make it about an hour with us before looking for higher energy activities to engage in. Our space is certainly optimized for children ages 0-5, but many older kiddos still have fun and enjoy themselves in our play space.
-
Why do you only allow 15 children in each play session? We do this to prevent overcrowding and to ensure everyone has enough space to run around and play more freely. In addition to the number of little ones running around, we also have to keep in mind the amount of space needed for parents, strollers, and other belongings.
-
I'm going to be late for my open-play reservation! Can I still come in to play?Of course! Many of our guests arrive after their reservation has already started. Your reservation simply means that you are guaranteed a spot in our play space during that particular 2-hour play session. Please keep in mind that your reservation begins at the start time for that open-play session, rather than 2 hours from when you initially arrive. This means that if you arrive late for your reservation, you will only have however much time still remains for that open-play session. (For example, if you arrive late at 9:30 AM for your 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM reservation, then you can still play for the remaining hour of that open-play session's window.) If you would like to cancel or reschedule a reservation, feel free to send us an email at happy@sunshineplaycafe.com or give us a call at (804) 216-4056.
-
What do you use to clean the toys in the playroom? We clean our facility every night using CleanSmart™️ disinfectant, which is made using hypochlorous acid. Hypochlorous acid is a non-toxic and non-irritating compound that disinfects better than bleach and quickly breaks down into saline solution (salt water). This also means that it is safe to use around any little ones who use a taste test to try out new toys!
-
My child has special needs, can we still play here?Of course! Everyone deserves to play, after all! We ask that you consider your child's specific needs when deciding to come play with us, but we are more than happy to work with you and accommodate as best we can! If you have any specific concerns or questions, feel free to send us an email at happy@sunshineplaycafe.com and we will do our best to assist you!
-
Do you have gift cards?Yes! We have both e-Gift Cards and physical gift cards available for purchase! If you would like to buy a physical gift card, please let a staff member know and we will get it taken care of for you!
